Chapter History

The University of Houston believes in excellence and strives to provide the best environment possible for guiding our Golden Key members to achieve in academics, leadership and service. The 10th Golden Key chapter, the University of Houston was chartered April 28th, 1979, as part of U.S. Region 7, which includes schools in Louisiana, Missisippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

With more than 9,900 members since 1994, the University of Houston Golden Key chapter is a large one, and our members have gone on to do great things in their lives. Honorary members include: Mayor Emeritis Kathryn Whitmire and multiple University of Houston President Emeriti. Our chapter is also very focused on service; members perform an average of 300 hours annually, and we’ve maintained a Gold Standing for exemplary community outreach. Additionally, in 2009, the chapter won the Outstanding Honors Organization of the Year award at the University of Houston. We welcome prospective members sophomore year through graduate school who are in the top 15% of their class and interested in service and leadership development.
